Lindy hop

Lindy hop is een Afro-Amerikaanse dans die ontstond in New York City in de late jaren twintig en vroege jaren dertig. Het was een samensmelting van vele verschillende dansen, maar voornamelijk gebaseerd op jazzdans, tapdansen en charleston. De ontwikkeling van lindy hop ging samen op met de ontwikkeling van jazz. Om die reden wordt de term Swing zowel voor deze dansstijl gebruikt als voor de jazzstijl waarop wordt gedanst. Er werd bijvoorbeeld in de grote danszalen van Harlem, de Savoy ballroom en de Cotton-club gedanst op de muziek van onder andere Louis Armstrong en Ella Fitzgerald.

In lindy hop wordt solo- en partnerdansen gecombineerd en de dans bevat zowel veel improvisatie als meer formele elementen, vergelijkbaar met de muziek waarop wordt gedanst. De basis swing out bevat bestaat deels uit een stuk gesloten danshouding, waarbij man en vrouw samen dansen (iets dat in Afrikaanse dansen gewoonlijk niet was toegestaan) en uit een stuk open danshouding waarin voor beide dansers ruimte is voor improvisatie.

Toen Charles Lindbergh in 1927 voor het eerst solo non-stop de Atlantische Oceaan overvloog, van New York naar Parijs, kopten de kranten: Lucky Lindy hops Atlantic. Hieruit zou de naam lindy hop zijn ontstaan.

Toen de dans door de blanke bevolking overgenomen werd stond deze bekend als de jitterbug, en stond aan de wortels van de Rock-'n-Roll en Boogiewoogie.

Op alle muziek met een swing ritme kan Lindy hop gedanst worden.

Het soort muziek waar doorgaans de Lindy Hop op gedanst wordt, kan voornamelijk onderverdeeld worden in volgende categorieën:

Big Band Swing Music: Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Benny Goodman, Chick Webb, Artie Shaw, Harry James, ea. Deze muziek wordt gespeeld door een bigband en kenmerkt zich door een explosief, vrolijk en ritmisch geluid.

Jump Blues: Louis Jordan, Jimmy en Joe Liggins, The Cadets, Etta James, Willie Brown, Louis Prima, Ella Mae Morse, Roy Milton, ea. Deze muziek is de voorloper van Rock and Roll: bluesy, maar met een licht, eenvoudige swing ritme.

Vintage Pop vocalisten: Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole, Ella Fitzgerald, Carmen McRae, Tony Bennett, Bing Crosby, Dean Martin, ea. Vooral jazz-georiënteerde muziek uit de jaren 1940-1960, waar de zanger de frontman van de band werd en zich centraal op het podium plaatste. Het varieert van leuke swing tunes tot croonende ballads tot gladde, fluweelachtige, martini-lounge tunes.

Mainstream Swing Jazz: Oscar Peterson, Roy Eldridge, Coleman Hawkins, Lester Young, Ben Webster, ea. Dit geluid wordt getypeerd door een zachtere, meer verfijnd gevoel, maar is nog steeds ritmisch en dansbaar. Ideaal voor een "cocktail party" gevoel. Zeer geschikt voor langzame dansen of langzaam Lindy Hoppen.

Blues: Muddy Waters, BB King, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Pinetop Perkins, en Snooky Pryor, ea. Straight-forward, 12-Bar Blues waarmee het allemaal begon, typeert Lindy muziek op zijn best. Hoe meer ontspannen het Bass ritme, hoe beter.

Neo Swing: Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, Royal Crown Revue, Brian Setzer, Cherry Poppin' Daddies, Ray Gelato, ea. Deze muziek leent elementen uit Jump Blues, Rock en de Big Band Swing waarmee het een hectische, up-tempo dansmuziek creëert, die verband houdt met de Neo-Swing rage van de late jaren 1990

Iemand die ten minste eenmaal per week danst , heeft grotere kans op een gelukkig en evenwichtig leven . Blijkt uit onderzoek van de universiteit in Frankfurt. Volgens onderzoekster en psychologe Cynthia Quiroga Murcia werkt dansen stressverlagend doordat tijdens het dansen de aanmaak van stresshormoon Cortisol afneemt. Ook blijkt dat de zin in seks toeneemt door de aanrakingen tijdens het dansen. Dansen is volgens de gerenommeerde Britse arts Vincent Forte voor ongetrainde mensen gezonder dan aerobics of joggen, die teveel ineens van het hart en de bloedsomloop vragen.Voordeel van dansen is dat je nooit te hard kan gaan.Dansers gaan zweten , krijgen een verhoogde polsslag , maar tegelijk rekken zij letterlijk hun hart en longen , met gevolg dat bloeddruk daalt , de circulatie verbetert en het hart minder hard moet werken. TNO deed ook onderzoek naar de fitheidseffecten van populaire dansen . Nagenoeg alle onderzochte dansen , bleken bij te dragen aan het halen van de Nederlandse Norm Gezond Bewegen. ( o.a Disco/ Volksdansen , Line dancing , Twist , Jazz , Ballroom en Jitterbug ) De intensiteit van Salsa en Sreetdance is vergelijkbaar met het spelen van een partij enkelspel Tennis en Afrikaanse dansvormen met een voetbalwedstrijdje.
En geldt zeker voor de populaire sportdans SH ' BAM . 
Het is maar dat U het DANS-weet....!

Chinese New Year - often called Chinese Lunar New Year although it actually is lunisolar - is the most important of the traditional Chinese holidays. Despite its winter occurrence, in China it is known as "Spring Festival," the literal translation of the Chinese name ?? (Pinyin: Ch?n Jié), owing to the difference between Western and traditional Chinese methods for computing the seasons. The festival begins on the first day of the first month (Chinese: ??; pinyin: Zh?ng Yuè) in the traditional Chinese calendar and ends with Lantern Festival which is on the 15th day. Chinese New Year's Eve, a day where Chinese families gather for their annual reunion dinner, is known as Chú X? (??) or "Eve of the Passing Year."

Chinese New Year is the longest and most important festivity in the Chinese Lunisolar Calendar. The origin of Chinese New Year is itself centuries old and gains significance because of several myths and traditions. Ancient Chinese New Year is a reflection on how the people behaved and what they believed in the most.

Chinese New Year is celebrated in countries and territories with significant Chinese populations, such as Mainland China, Hong Kong,^[2] Indonesia, Macau, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore,^[3] Taiwan, Thailand, and also in Chinatowns elsewhere. Chinese New Year is considered a major holiday for the Chinese and has had influence on the new year celebrations of its geographic neighbors, as well as cultures with whom the Chinese have had extensive interaction. These include Koreans (Seollal), Tibetans and Bhutanese (Losar), Mongolians (Tsagaan Sar), Vietnamese (T?t), and the Japanese before 1873 (Oshogatsu).

In countries such as Australia, Canada and the United States, although Chinese New Year is not an official holiday, many ethnic Chinese hold large celebrations and Australia Post, Canada Post, and the US Postal Service issue New Year's themed stamps.

Within China, regional customs and traditions concerning the celebration of the Chinese new year vary widely. People will pour out their money to buy presents, decoration, material, food, and clothing. It is also the tradition that every family thoroughly cleans the house to sweep away any ill-fortune in hopes to make way for good incoming luck. Windows and doors will be decorated with red colour paper-cuts and couplets with popular themes of "happiness", "wealth", and "longevity". On the Eve of Chinese New Year, supper is a feast with families. Food will include such items as pigs, ducks, chicken and sweet delicacies. The family will end the night with firecrackers. Early the next morning, children will greet their parents by wishing them a healthy and happy new year, and receive money in red paper envelopes. The Chinese New Year tradition is to reconcile, forget all grudges and sincerely wish peace and happiness for everyone.

Although the Chinese calendar traditionally does not use continuously numbered years, outside China its years are often numbered from the reign of the Yellow Emperor. But at least three different years numbered 1 are now used by various scholars, making the year 2011 "Chinese Year" 4709, 4708, or 4648.^[4]

Chinese New Year - often called Chinese Lunar New Year although it actually is lunisolar - is the most important of the traditional Chinese holidays. Despite its winter occurrence, in China it is known as "Spring Festival," the literal translation of the Chinese name ?? (Pinyin: Ch?n Jié), owing to the difference between Western and traditional Chinese methods for computing the seasons. The festival begins on the first day of the first month (Chinese: ??; pinyin: Zh?ng Yuè) in the traditional Chinese calendar and ends with Lantern Festival which is on the 15th day. Chinese New Year's Eve, a day where Chinese families gather for their annual reunion dinner, is known as Chú X? (??) or "Eve of the Passing Year."

Chinese New Year is the longest and most important festivity in the Chinese Lunisolar Calendar. The origin of Chinese New Year is itself centuries old and gains significance because of several myths and traditions. Ancient Chinese New Year is a reflection on how the people behaved and what they believed in the most.

Chinese New Year is celebrated in countries and territories with significant Chinese populations, such as Mainland China, Hong Kong,^[2] Indonesia, Macau, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore,^[3] Taiwan, Thailand, and also in Chinatowns elsewhere. Chinese New Year is considered a major holiday for the Chinese and has had influence on the new year celebrations of its geographic neighbors, as well as cultures with whom the Chinese have had extensive interaction. These include Koreans (Seollal), Tibetans and Bhutanese (Losar), Mongolians (Tsagaan Sar), Vietnamese (T?t), and the Japanese before 1873 (Oshogatsu).

In countries such as Australia, Canada and the United States, although Chinese New Year is not an official holiday, many ethnic Chinese hold large celebrations and Australia Post, Canada Post, and the US Postal Service issue New Year's themed stamps.

Within China, regional customs and traditions concerning the celebration of the Chinese new year vary widely. People will pour out their money to buy presents, decoration, material, food, and clothing. It is also the tradition that every family thoroughly cleans the house to sweep away any ill-fortune in hopes to make way for good incoming luck. Windows and doors will be decorated with red colour paper-cuts and couplets with popular themes of "happiness", "wealth", and "longevity". On the Eve of Chinese New Year, supper is a feast with families. Food will include such items as pigs, ducks, chicken and sweet delicacies. The family will end the night with firecrackers. Early the next morning, children will greet their parents by wishing them a healthy and happy new year, and receive money in red paper envelopes. The Chinese New Year tradition is to reconcile, forget all grudges and sincerely wish peace and happiness for everyone.

Although the Chinese calendar traditionally does not use continuously numbered years, outside China its years are often numbered from the reign of the Yellow Emperor. But at least three different years numbered 1 are now used by various scholars, making the year 2011 "Chinese Year" 4709, 4708, or 4648.^[4]
